69th Split Summer Festival commences with premiere of Puccini's Tosca

The 69th edition of the esteemed Split Summer Festival will commence with a captivating premiere of Tosca on July 14th at 9 PM on Peristil Square. This highly anticipated opening event will be graced by distinguished guests, including representatives of prominent officials such as the envoy of the President of the Republic of Croatia and the Minister of Culture and Media. 

The vibrant atmosphere of the Split Summer Festival will sweep across the city, infusing it with artistic energy and cultural splendor. With an impressive lineup of 46 captivating opera, drama, dance, and concert performances, complemented by engaging art exhibitions and thought-provoking literary programs, this year's festival promises to captivate audiences until August 14th. 

For nearly seven decades, the Split Summer Festival has stood as a testament to the enduring power of the performing arts. Embracing the spirit of its ancient Greek origins, this world-renowned event transforms Split's historic sites and enchanting venues into open-air stages, where a tapestry of talented theater artists, musicians, singers, actors, dancers, visual artists, and writers come together to present their artistic visions. 

Spanning 14 captivating locations, from the grand Peristil Square and Meštrović's Kaštilac to the atmospheric Sustipan and the prestigious Meštrović Gallery, the festival invites both locals and visitors to immerse themselves in a diverse range of artistic expressions. As the sun sets over the breathtaking Marjan Bay, the festival's newest stage in Bene provides an idyllic setting for extraordinary performances. 

The festival's grand opening will be marked by a spectacular rendition of Giacomo Puccini's timeless masterpiece, Tosca. Under the expert guidance of Maestro Lipanović and directed by the acclaimed Goran Golovko, this mesmerizing production features a stellar cast of renowned Croatian opera performers. Kristina Kolar, a true virtuoso, takes on the titular role of Tosca, while Domagoj Dorotić shines as Cavaradossi and Lucian Batinić delivers a compelling portrayal of the infamous Scarpia. Accompanied by a talented ensemble, including a stirring choir, an exceptional orchestra, and the enchanting dancers of the Split National Theatre Ballet, this performance promises an unforgettable evening of sublime artistry. 

As the festival unfolds, it will extend its cultural embrace beyond Split's borders, with captivating performances in Vrlika and Šolta, and a much-anticipated guest appearance at the renowned Dubrovnik Summer Festival.
