Based on the novel by Sándor Márai and Christopher Hampton's adaptation

CNT Zagreb and Theater Erato

Thirty years after a tragic event two former friends must confront each other in a devastating bid to lay the past to rest. Betrayal, love, truth and friendship come together in this play based on Sandor Marai's bestselling novel.

Performed in croatian.

Two friends find themselves after thirty years and, in a kind of verbal duel, are confronted with the long-kept secret of their relationship. What separated them and what reunited them in one stormy night, to part again, but this time forever? Is it the ghost of a dead woman who appears passing into their personal reality? What is the role of music in their lives, especially Chopin? Two elderly men and three women intertwine their lives, mixing the past with the present giving the story a frame of tense suspense. By evoking the past, removing veil by veil from a mysterious event that has turbulently changed their lives, they transfer the dramatic conflict into the present and, seeking resolution, dance between revenge and reconciliation. Seeking the purpose of their lives, one episodic person will object to them: What do you want? You survived. Is the purpose of our lives really to survive? Marai gives a concrete answer to that question.
