Ero the Joker

Ero the Joker, the finest and most performed Croatian opera worldwide, is an unparalleled masterpiece by Jakov Gotovac that will once again shine in all its glory in its most natural setting, on the land from which it originated. Vrlika is the birthplace of librettist Milan Begović and the source of numerous folk inspirations that Gotovac skillfully incorporated into this work.

Ero the Joker

Filled with beautiful folk melodies and sparkling satire, this opera is one of the greatest achievements of Slavic operatic literature, where people with genuine virtues and flaws come to life on stage. The feat of the wealthy peasant Mićo, who pretends to come from the afterlife to test the character and loyalty of his beloved, unfolds in a rich series of comical situations and twists. It is one of the rare Croatian operas performed on foreign stages, particularly in Germany.
