Aida

One of the Split audience’s favourite operas ever for the third time in a row is staged on the Peristyle. The youngest National Principal Soloist Luciano Batinić as the King of Egypt, and soprano Rachele Stanisci singing the title role will certainly represent refreshment in new performances of Verdi's work

Aida

Aida and Split love each other openly and this fact has been obvious ever since the very first performance of Verdi's opera at the Peristyle, during the first "Split Summer Festival" in 1954.

Sixty years later, a triumphant première under the baton of maestro Nikša Bareza and directed by Dražen Siriščević at the 60th Split Summer Festival, left the audience at the Peristyle breathless and enchanted by performances, scenic design and costumes.

With some changes within the cast, this, probably most photogenic version of Aida in the City of Split ever, will see another staging at the 62nd Split Summer Festival. The conductor Giuseppe Acquaviva, who in his career, among other things, conducted Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Opera House Chorus,Italian Philharmonic Orchestra and received numerous awards while since 2014 he has been artistic director of the Teatro Carlo Felice from Genoa.

Luciano Batinić, National Principal Soloist of the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, the youngest National Principal Soloist, in the role of the King of Egypt, and soprano Rachele Stanisci singing the title role will certainly represent refreshment in new performances of Verdi's work at the Peristyle.

"Maestro Nikša Bareza has conducted quite a few Aidas in his life, but has never experienced the situation when in the midst of the triumphant finale of the second act the audience interrupts the play with a loud and long applause as it happened on Monday at the Peristyle. The credits for this go to the musicians and singers, Dražen Siriščević in his directorial debut and Slaven Raos whose scenic design together with the light design of Zoran Mihanović, perfectly blended with that of Diocletian. Antique beauty of the scenes was mostly enriched by the symphony of colours of gorgeous costumes by Juraj Zigman, who was given standing ovations by the audience".(Branimir Pofuk, Večernji list)
