Papandopulo Quartet

Papandopulo Quartet

Papandopulo Quartet - a group of excellent and respectively awarded Croatian saxophone players performing together in the same assembly ever since 2007 - has found the right measure between top music skills and easiness, character and popularity and the fact that their first CD released in 2013 has been the best-selling classical CD in Croatia for years now proves this.

Papandopulo Quartet

Papandopulo Quartet, earlier known as New Sax Quartet, is composed of four Croatian saxophone players - Nikola Fabijanić, Gordan Tudor, Goran Jurković and Tomislav Žužak who have been playing together ever since their university studies. The Quartet has performed at well-known festivals and music events such as Musical Evenings at St. Donat Church, Rijeka Summer Nights, Dubrovnik Summer Festival, Music Biennale Zagreb, Music Festival in Opatija, Split Summer Festival, “Concerts in Euphrasiana” Festival in Poreč, Days of the New Music in Split and Festival of Croatian Music in Vienna as well as at concerts in Budapest, Paris, Strasbourg and other cities while their concerts have always been acclaimed both by the audience and the critics.
The Quartet pays special attention to promotion of contemporary music, especially young Croatian and international composers and so they premiered compositions by Mirela Ivičević, Fran Đurović, Mattias Kranebitter, Dubravko Palanović, Tena Borić, Krešimir Seletković, Ivan Končić, Šimon Voseček and others. They played together with the Zagreb Saxophone Quartet, piano player Ivan Batoš, harpsichord player Linda Mravunac Fabijanić and eminent international saxophone players such as Arno Bornkamp, Jean Yves Fourmeau, Lars Mlekusch and Amstel Quartet.
Members of the Quartet are also professors at Academies of Music in Zagreb, Split, Sarajevo and Novi Sad, teachers at Music Schools in Zagreb, Split, Jastrebarsko and Samobor working also as mentor-teachers at Master Workshops both in Croatia and abroad. Together they started up School of Saxophone in Jaska, international spring seminar in Jastrebarsko for saxophone students. Recently their second CD “Per Quattro” has come out.
“Relaxation and self-confidence in their performance, tonal accuracy and amplitude of tone creation, skills in a variety of articulations, amazing agility and precision both in the highest and in the lowest registers, in a word, amazing immaculate technique. It is the foundation on which members of Papandopulo Quartet built their musical expressiveness and vocalization. Foundation proving their individual skillfulness which, in the context of subtle non-verbal intercommunication grows into artistic/creative stage act”.
