One of Marin Držić’s most renowned works, reimagined by director Paolo Magelli—one of Europe’s leading theatre directors, known for his powerful and contemporary interpretations of classical texts—will be presented as part of the drama programme of the 72nd Split Summer Festival.

This co-production of the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, Marin Držić Theatre, and the Croatian National Theatre Split brings back to the stage a timeless comedy of human weaknesses. Inspired by Plautus’ Aulularia, Držić’s The Miser tells a story of greed, love, and obsession with money, shaped through a vivid, spoken rhythm and convincingly drawn psychological characters. Magelli’s precise work with actors and his ability to actualize classic texts opens space for a new reading of this witty and sharp comedy that still strongly resonates in modern society today.
