Dance programme

Turkish State Opera and Ballet is the central administrative point over all Operas and Ballets in fve major Turkish cities, among them Ankara with three such theaters. The biggest one and the most popular of all of them is Opera Sahnesi or Büyük Tiyatro. It is this theater that comes to 55th Split Summer Festival with its atractive collage-show Life and Tango. This collage show consists of two parts: one-act Behind the Stage, music by Manfred Leuchter and Tae-Gun Kim and ballet It’s Your Life, music by Astor Piazzola and Jacob Gade. It is an imaginative and modern performance by world known Korea dancer and choreographer Young Soon Hue Simon based on the music by two composers who made tango as famous as tango made them famous.

Life and Tango is a six- scene choreography where everybody can recognize their own life: from unsatisfed married couple with a third person entering into their lives, to an unsatisfed businessman who compares his life with other people’s lives, or a fashion stylist bored with all his “stars”, and fnally to the scenes where the narrator Sabri Özmener ofers to turn our “difcult life”, into an enchanting tango.
