Stage: Carrara Square
Zijah Sokolović, actor and director from Bosnia and Herzegovina, well known to the audience for his movies and two famous monodramas. Afer the frst one An actor is…an actor is…an actor (afer one thousand performances still going on), Zijah Sokolović premiered Cabares, Cabarei in Vienna in 1993 and ever since then has played it hundreds of times in some twenty countries: from the neighboring countries like Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Austria…to those far away like Australia and the USA.
Sokolović is author and director of this monologue play which through many characters speaks about the life of an ordinary man. He has “marriage, country and some years behind him”, therefore he is an experienced man while his loud thinking about youth, love, sex, marriage, job, success, politics, work, freedom and fnally about aging and death leaves the spectators breathless. Not because of the thinking since we all think at least sometimes (!), but because of defniteness of conclusions reached by “this man with experience” (wrong) from everything that happens to him. Namely, that he is not important! “How do you think – I’m not important? – Zijah will tell him – Who is important if you are not important? You fool, look at yourself! Nobody, nobody in this world is more important than you!
