Voices From the Mountains

The play Voices From the Mountains, in the spirit of the 500th birth anniversary of two contemporaries Petar Zoranić and Marin Držić, is meant to be a kind of overlapping of two great works of Croatian renaissance literature. Namely, the play is about an allegory journey of the shepherd Zoran down by the Croatian coast, who driven by love passion, is looking for his beloved fairy. On his way he meets many mythical and earthly creatures, spiritual people who help him to overcome his longing through creativity, songs and dances. The play Voices From the Mountains had its premiere at Dubrovnik Summer Festival in 2008. Rene Medvešek was awarded by Orlando Award for direction and dramaturge of this play, for the best artistic creation in the Drama Program of 59th

Dubrovnik Summer Festival. Authenticity of Medvešek’s author approach can be noticed in his direction writing which cannot be explained singularly and rejects the possibility of copying. Therefore he is one of rare Croatian directors who thinks about the theater from the vision of personal, thus moving the boundaries not only of theater but also of reality.
