Funtango Band presented itself for the frst time at Jazz Cerkno Festival in 2004 playing Astor Piazzolla who was their inspiration when they were founded as a quintet. In the meantime Funtango has been widening its repertoire with classical pieces (A. Vivaldi, J. S. Bach, I. Stravinsky…) but also interpreting them in a more tempered way and more uncompromisingly than usual.
Marko Hatlak, founder and leader of Funtango, afer exemplary academic music education accomplished enviable solo concert carrier and numerous cooperations with orchestras like Moscow and Slovenia Philharmonics, Symphony Orchestra and Big Band of Slovenia Radio Television. Later his carrier was more and more related to smaller bands like Terrafolk and Distango, then Fultango for which he says that “it is still tango – but tango so flled with passion and energy that it overpasses music and becomes a way of living”.
