Bukača

Bukača

"Bukača" tells the story of a turbulent year in Martina’s life, during which, while battling a serious illness, she also faced the hatred of the community she grew up in.

Martina Mlinarević, journalist, writer, and activist, now lives and works in Prague as the Ambassador of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Just before leaving, she published this book, which she describes as her most powerful outcry. Expelled from her own home by her own father, with her child in her arms, she embarks on a journey full of pain, but also of wonderfully beautiful moments.

In many parts of this monodrama, we find sharp answers to the questions “What is true love?” and “How to be a good person?” When you’ve escaped death by a hair’s breadth several times, you learn to live only for today — and you have no time for anything but love.

The actress, Tea Šimić, adapted the text and created her own directorial interpretation. Alongside dark scenes conveying Martina’s emotional and physical hell, humour is used to provide comic relief. Through movement and speech, the actress skillfully portrays every stage of Martina’s journey.
