The ballet diptych performed at Marjan’s Bene unites two classical ballets: Chopiniana, a romantic, plotless ballet, was choreographed by Mikhail Fokine to selected piano pieces by Frédéric Chopin. Premiered in 1908, Fokine’s work radiates a poetic vision of a bygone era and romantic sylphs. It is one of the first ballets in the blanc style and is now considered a classical gem of early 20th-century ballet.
Walpurgis Night, the ballet scene from Gounod’s opera Faust, soon gained life as an independent ballet. Inspired by the German myth of a witches’ sabbath on Mount Brocken, it evokes an enchanting night of fantasy, dance, and darkness. Choreographed by Leonid Lavrovsky, Gounod’s music provides a rich and vivid backdrop for this mythical night.
Music performed by the CNT Split Orchestra.
Note for the audience: Due to damage to the Marjan's Bene area caused by a severe storm in Split, the scheduled performances will be held in the courtyard of Spinut Elementary School.
