Shakespeare’s play Othello is a powerful exploration of jealousy, betrayal, and deep emotional rupture — themes that find fertile ground in the language of contemporary dance. Choreographer Maša Kolar, one of Croatia’s most prominent dance artists, brings this classical tragedy to the ballet stage in a contemporary, emotionally charged interpretation.
With an extensive international career — from the Komedija Theatre to the Dresden Ballet and collaborations with world-renowned ensembles such as Queensland Ballet and the Lyon Ballet — Kolar has shaped her artistic vision through encounters with diverse dance cultures. A recipient of the prestigious Mary Wigman Award, she currently serves as the Artistic Director of the Ballet of the Croatian National Theatre Ivan pl. Zajc in Rijeka.
