The Fox

This year, the Split Summer Festival presents a unique theatrical tribute to one of the most important authors of Croatian literature — Dubravka Ugrešić.

Director Ivica Buljan, in collaboration with acclaimed actors Zlatko Burić and Snježana Sinovčić Šiškov, presents an adaptation of the novel Fox. This essayistic, fragmentary prose work explores exile, memory, belonging, and the subversive power of storytelling.

The Fox is a theatrical lecture-performance, a mosaic of truths, anecdotes, essays, and fictional digressions in which the line between author, character, and actor is blurred. At the heart of the performance is not the event, but speech, memory, and resistance. Zlatko Burić and Snježana Sinovčić guide the audience through narrative labyrinths with tenderness, irony, and the experience of those who have themselves traversed geographical and spiritual diasporas.

In The Fox, Dubravka Ugrešić writes about art and lies, emigration and identity, authorship and exile, as well as the women who write and the worlds that silence them.
