Ero The Joker

Gotovac's opera will be performed again in its most natural environment – where it originally came from – in Vrlika, Begović's birth place, as well as the birth place of many folkloric impulses that Gotovac so ingeniously incorporated into Ero the Joker.

Ero The Joker

Ero the Joker, a comic opera with a libretto by Milan Begović, is one of the few Croatian operas with a presence in the theaters abroad, especially in Germany. Mićo, a rich peasant, pretends to have fallen from the sky, from the other world in order to test nature and devotion of the girl he loves and this act develops into a whole set of comic situations and plots. This opera is full of beautiful folk songs that Gotovac incorporated in his work with a skill of a great artist. A fresh and live stage life pulsates in the opera. People with human virtues and faults live there. Deprived of pathos, full of sparkling satire, this opera ranks among the best works of Slavic opera literature.

This summer it will be performed again in its most natural environment – where it originally came from – in Vrlika, Begović's birth place, as well as the birth place of many folkloric impulses that Gotovac so ingeniously incorporated into Ero the Joker.
