Mihail Sinkevich Appointed as New Chief Conductor of HNK Split

Mihail Sinkevich is the new chief conductor of the Croatian National Theatre in Split. The musician, known for his distinguished international career, made his debut at the Split National Theatre this March when he conducted the premiere of the ballet production ClassConcert / Scheherazade. Maestro Sinkevič will assume his new position in June.

Throughout his illustrious career, Maestro Mihail Sinkevich is notably recognised for his work as the conductor of the Mariinsky Theatre Opera in Saint Petersburg, where he served for 22 years starting in 2000. He conducted over 60 operatic titles and the entire classical ballet repertoire, and spent nearly ten years as assistant artistic director to Valery Gergiev.

Maestro Sinkevich graduated in conducting from Saint Petersburg, studying under Ilija Musin. His impressive career also includes performances at major opera houses and concert halls such as the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House in London, New National Opera in Tokyo, Teatro Regio in Turin and Parma, Teatro Comunale in Modena, Baden-Baden Festival Hall, Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, Kennedy Center in Washington, Rudolfinum Concert Hall in Prague, Melbourne Festival, National Opera in Sofia, Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Chicago Auditorium Theatre, and cities including Cleveland, Detroit, Amsterdam, Manchester, and Karlsruhe, among others.

Since 2013, he has served as the chief conductor at the Musical Theatre of the Republic of Karelia in Petrozavodsk. In Croatia, he has been active in Zagreb since 2007, where he has staged several operas and ballets as a guest.
