The central thematic focus of this stand-up theatre piece is an autobiographical event in the life of the actress and author: the decision to enroll in driving school at the age of forty. What was meant to be an exit from a psycho-emotional crisis and the beginning of a new life chapter turned out to be a descent into its far deeper branches and abysses.
The Rest of My Life serves as a kind of continuation of the already established performative voice and signature of Lada Bonacci. In her previous original works—especially the theatre piece The Last One Before I Go—she explores questions of existential dedication to creation, the treatment of the body and corporeality in performance, and the boundaries of the idea that our ultimate meaning and meaninglessness can be expressed through the sublimity, humor, and playful capacity of performance.
